This is the new home for the blog of the Programme Director of the Henley MBA by Distance Learning. Henley Business School (HBS) was formed in August 2008 by the merger of Henley Management College, which was founded in 1946, and the Business School of the University of Reading. HBS is now one of Europe’s largest business schools.
The contents of this blog represent only my own views and are not intended to reflect the views of the Business School, although every now and again this does happen….
Hi Chris,
My name is John D’Alton and I’ve been doing some research on our family, instigated by my son’s history class in school. My son is named Emmet.
My father told me many times that his father, Martin, and Emmet Dalton were first cousins. That Emmet’s father had emigrated to the US and returned to live in Dublin where he opened a laundry. My grandfather, worked in the laundry for a short time.
There appears to have been no other contact between the families.
The apostrophe in my name is a family pretension, adopted during the reign of one Cardinal D’Alton.
I’d love to know more about Charlie, your grandfather, such a brave and courageous man as well as his family.
Kind regards,
John D’Alton

[…] My MBA lecturer asked me to reflect on my learning journey so far. I need to mentally plot my personal progress (or the lack of it) and come to a resolution about where I’m going (or should be going). These things are always difficult and even frightening for me. And it’s not only because it’s a bit hairy fairy and mystical and without any confirmatory mathematical equations. It’s also because most of the time I’m very busy NOT reflecting. I’m usually running from one place (like work or school runs) to another (like home or grocery shopping). But as much as I’d like to continue complaining about time poverty, I know this assignment is meant for me. […]
